The wildflowers were early and plentiful this year.
Hello, Friend ~ I’m Scott and I appreciate you inviting me into your inbox today.
Usually, I share snippets of our travels in the hope that my photos and stories will allow you to go on a vicarious vacation and “get away from it all,” if only for a moment. However, because of our house construction project (see my last postcard for more details) the only traveling I’m doing lately is between the construction site and vendors (cabinets, garage doors, septic systems anyone?). In addition to making progress on our new home, all this road running has given us a good introduction to our new neighborhood. In today’s postcard, I’ll share some of the goodness we’ve found.
The old saying is, “April showers bring May flowers.” This year, January showers brought a feast of March flowers. The earlier-than-usual wildflowers put on quite the show:
Verbena, bluebonnets and a hungry butterfly
Indian blankets and bluebonnets
A bounty of beautiful bluebonnets
Rounding a bend in the road we came upon some elk lounging in a field of verbena. We didn’t expect to see elk in Texas.
The elk weren’t the only unexpected creatures we came across. Just down the road from our new place, there’s a camel farm. In addition to at least eight camels, there’s one bison. Why camels? Why just one bison? Is the bison lonely? We don’t know. It’s all a mystery to be solved.
Another bend in the road, another unexpected creature. Unfortunately, this T-Rex’s eclipse-viewing preparations were for naught because there was a solid wall of clouds between us and the moon on eclipse day.
Speaking of clouds…
I’ll leave you with a new word (at least new to us) that we coined while watching those cloudy, autumnal European skies:
Today’s Travel Word
“Peekablue” ~ that moment when a sliver of blue sky peeks out from behind the clouds.
Until next time, wishing you blue skies ~
Ciao!
