Hello ~ I’m Scott and welcome to your 5-minute vacation for March 18th. For the next several postcards, I’m trying something different (the explanation is here). I appreciate you inviting me into your inbox today.
Piazza Navona: Bernini statues, restaurants, souvenir vendors, and loads of other tourists. It’s a lot of fun.
This morning, we took a taxi to the main train station for a day trip to Anzio. While waiting for our train, we had lunch: a sandwich and bottled water from the Despar (a convenience store brand). It was a short trip, barely more than an hour. After finding the WWII battle monument (an underwhelming signboard), we walked along the coast, taking in the harbor, restaurants, and beautiful homes.
Back in Rome, we had dinner al fresco on Piazza Navona. There were lots of other tourists, souvenir vendors, and street musicians. I know it sounds touristy ~ and it is ~ but it was also a ton of fun. I was going to choose a Chianti to accompany our dinner (four-cheese gnocchi for me, lasagne for RG), but our waiter suggested a Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. It was the same price, so not an upsell. We liked it much better. We now have a new fave Italian red. Ciao!
