Getting to Our Apartment
Hello ~ I’m Scott and welcome to your 5-minute vacation for March 10th. For the next several postcards, I’m trying something different (the explanation is here). I appreciate you inviting me into your inbox today.
The market square around the corner from our apartment.
After almost 14 hours, we’re finally here: Rome! We had planned to take a tram from the airport to a stop near our apartment but that line dead-ends at the Tiber River long before it gets close to our apartment. Surprise! Using our secret powers ~ looking like lost tourists and asking humbly for help ~ a very kind taxi driver took us to our apartment building.
The door to the stairs to our apartment is right next to a pizza joint. (I know that will come in handy later). The stairs are a narrow, perfect spiral and very well-made. I would admire the craftsmanship more if there weren’t 64 steps between jet-lagged me and the promise of a nap in the apartment.
The apartment is comfy. It has a living room, one bedroom, a well-stocked kitchen complete with a clothes washer (but no dryer), a full bath 15 steps above the kitchen, and a skinny terrace.
The location is great. It’s right around the corner from the square Campo de Fiori. Each morning, the Campo is a market with fresh produce, cheeses, spices, and some dried meats. Late afternoon, the vendors’ stalls are replaced with tables and chairs, transforming it into an evening spot of restaurants, tourists, and vendors hawking souvenirs.
We’re exhausted from the flights, so that’s all for now. Tomorrow’s adventures include learning how to make coffee in a moka pot and taking a Hop-on/Hop-off bus around the city.
Ciao!
