Hello ~ I’m Scott and welcome to your 5-minute vacation for March 20th. For the next several postcards, I’m trying something different (the explanation is here). I appreciate you inviting me into your inbox today.
The Tiber River with Castel Sant’Angelo in the background.
This morning, we took a taxi to the Villa Borghese. Six cars easily fit side-by-side on a road marked for three lanes. Traffic lights were merely suggestions. After the first traffic circle, I expected the trip to become a version of bumper cars but we, and the taxi itself, arrived unscathed. I would never drive here but I enjoyed the ride.
The Bernini statues at Villa Borghese are magical. The technical skill and the emotional impact have to be experienced in person. No photo can do them justice.
Afterward, we strolled through the surrounding gardens. An accordionist was playing Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D minor.” Sublime. I didn’t realize an accordion could sound that good.
We walked back to the apartment via the scenic route through the Piazza Popolo and along the Tiber River. According to Rosemary’s FitBit, we walked almost 12 miles today. On the way home, we picked up take-out for dinner so we wouldn’t have to go back down those 64 steps again today. I think it’s going to be an early night.
Ciao!
