Hello ~ I’m Scott and welcome to your 5-minute vacation for March 16th. For the next several postcards, I’m trying something different (the explanation is here). I appreciate you inviting me into your inbox today.
The Typewriter at night. I wish the viewing deck was open at night because I bet the view of the illuminated city is spectacular.
This morning, we walked to Piazza Venezia and took the glass elevator to the top of The Victor Emmanuel II National Monument (also known as The Typewriter). The views are superb: the ruins of the Forum and the Colosseum to the rear and the sprawling modern city to the front. On the way home, we shopped in the Campo dei Fiori for produce for our lunch salads.
This afternoon, we walked in the opposite direction for our next adventure. We took a private tour of the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel (no, we didn’t lie down on the floor because we probably would’ve been trampled by everyone else), and St. Peter’s Basilica. The tour was 3.5 hours yet I think we just scratched the surface. I’m glad we took a private tour instead of a group one because our guide adjusted the route to spend more time on the art than usual.
To cap off a very good day, we had take-out from the pizza joint on the ground floor of our building for dinner. Ciao!
